
Human Appeal International has launched an emergency appeal to the current crisis after the devastating cyclone Nargis that devastated Myanmar ( Burma) on Saturday 3rd May 2008.
Human Appeal is working with local partners on the ground to organize the distribution of essential aid.
Winds of up to 190kms per hour crashing through the country and leaving an official toll of 23,000 dead, 42,000 missing and a military official estimated 80,000 dead in one delta township alone.
Tens of thousands of homes have been flattened, roads destroyed and power lines ripped down, and agencies are reporting that as many as one
million people may be left without access to food, shelter or water in what is being described as the worst storm yet.
The immediate priorities are to provide food, water, clothing and emergency relief.
“Those who (in charity) spend of their goods by night and by day, in secret, and in public, have their reward with their Lord: on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.” (Al-Baqara: 274)
