Pakistan Flood Appeal 2011

THE SITUATION

Over 8 million people have been affected by the recent monsoon floods in Pakistan. Severe rain has once again inundated the Kyber Paktunkhwa and Sindh pronvices since late August, destroying large parts of the communities that are still recovering and rebuilding from last year's floods. The National Disaster Authority reports at least 443 deaths and more than 755 people are injured as a result of these floods.

The NDMA also reports:

-Over 500,000 homes fully destroyed and over 600,000 homes partially destroyed.
-More than 80,000 livestock have perished
-Crops cultivated on 2.8 million acres have been affected or ruined.

It is estimated that over 600,000 people are displaced, living in makeshift camps and temporary settlements. These people are in desperate need of emergency shelter, food, clean water, and medical aid.

Human Appeal International is on the ground and has started to distribute vital aid. With the rising numbers of displaced people, the needs for temporary shelter are ever increasing.
