Sadaqa Jariyah

The Prophet (PUBH) said: “You smiling in the face of your

brother is Sadaqa (charity).” [Tirmidhi]

Sadaqa is broad term to be defined as it can be almost any
act of good such as a simple smile. Generally, a Sadaqa is
a donation given voluntarily to poor people, providing
them with the necessities of life. A donor can make a
general donation (otherwise known as Sadaqa) at any

HAA will put this Sadaqa towards one
of its charity funds. For this kind of donation, the donor
can decide to which destination he or she wants the
Sadaqa to go. They may also select a fund of their choice
(e.g. orphans, wells, or any of our other charity projects).

The concept of charity has such beautiful meaning behind it as it
is usually an act of selflessness purely for the sake of helping
another in need.

However, there is a silver lining behind charity as well. Allah
(SWT) promised to replace everything that we give in charity
when He says in the Quran: “Say, “Indeed, my Lord extends
provision for whom He wills of His servants and restricts [it] for
him. But whatever charity you spend – He will compensate it; and
He is the best of providers.”
(Saba  34 : 39).

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) further emphasised this concept
when he said:  “Charity does not decrease wealth”. [Muslim]

Hence, this leads to a new path where you have the amazing
feeling of doing good yet not decreasing from what you took out
of our wallet with the bonus of ultimate blessings and rewards.

Protects The Society

In societies around the world, it is not uncommon for crimes to be committed out of poverty and need. When a person does not have sufficient income, he may try to get money illegally to save his life, or to save the life of loved ones.  The actions of wealthier people sharing their wealth through Sadaqa or Zakah goes a long way to ensuring that the poor do not have to resort to criminal means to obtain money, and in satisfying their basic needs for shelter, sustenance and security.

Sadaqa Jariyah - The Ongoing Charity

The Prophet (PBUH) said: “If a human dies, then his good deeds stop except for three: a Sadaqa Jariyah (continuous charity), a beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for him.” [Muslim]

The Sadaqa Jariyah is a donation that goes towards a continuous form of charity, such as the digging of wells, building mosques, building schools and distributing knowledge. Its reward from Allah (SWT) also continues for as long as the donation keeps benefiting people even after one passes.
