The situation in Gaza is escalating to unforeseen levels of devastation, most notably the large-scale famine engulfing the entire region as we speak.
The death toll since the beginning has now surpassed 61,000 with well over 154,000 injured, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza.
An ongoing total siege had been imposed since the ceasefire was broken in March of this year. Since then, humanitarian aid trucks at Gaza’s border crossings have been denied access resulting in one of the worst cases of deliberate mass-starvation in modern history.
“Food is running out. Those seeking it risk being shot. People are dying trying to feed their families” Tom Fletcher, UN Emergency Relief Coordinator has said.
Since May 2025, over 1,800 people have been killed whilst seeking aid at military-controlled distribution sites. Gaza’s Health Ministry has also reported that the death toll as a direct result of starvation has reached 227, including over 100 children.
The magnitude of the situation is putting 2 million people at a catastrophic risk of famine, with the rate of child malnutrition surging over 180% since February this year according to UNICEF Director.
Right now, Human Appeal Australia (HAA) is actively providing displaced families with freshly cooked hot meals as well as vegetable baskets sourced from our HAA farm and local suppliers.
We are also distributing water from four HAA operated water wells which has been cleaned and filtered through our desalination plant – providing clean water for drinking and sanitation to those in need.
The preparation of truck-loads of aid are also underway and your generosity is pivotal to building a lifeline for those in need once the borders re-open.
Note: Due to the unpredictable entry of aid supplies into Gaza, this may affect the prices of certain supplies to increase/decrease within a particular period.
