In what has been a difficult week for the African continent we find ourselves facing a crisis that is staggering in its scale and heartbreaking in its human cost. Catastrophic floods have ravaged Libya, leaving a trail of unimaginable devastation.
The Reality on the Ground
Whole neighborhoods have been say indiscriminately swept out to sea, leaving survivors to grapple with the enormity of the situation. In the city of Derna alone, the death toll has exceeded 11,300 lives lost. Estimates 10,100 individuals reported missing.
These numbers, as overwhelming as they are, only scratch the surface. Each statistic represents a person—a father, a mother, a child, a friend—torn away from their loved ones. Families have been shattered, communities obliterated, and countless children left homeless and scared.
