The fifth event of Father and Son Program this week was different.
Cinemas in Bankstown was the destination and Cats & Dogs was the movie.
The in-door entertaining activity allowed fathers and their sons to enjoy going to the cinema together. Research shows that joint media engagement – parents and child spending time together with media- has a profound effect on children. In other words, to help our kids we don’t need to change their activities, we simply need to join them. Scholars noted that the simple act of watching TV or a cinema movie with a child communicates that:
(1) what the child is doing important to the parent so kids feel cared for
(2) the parent may approve the content or guide his son through the values within.
When a father is watching with his children, they tend to pay more attention to the program/movie, and ultimately, learn better with their father’s help.
