Human Appeal Australia was honoured to host several distinguished guests at its head office this week, including key Federal Ministers and local government leaders, for a strategic breakfast meeting focused on community concerns and international humanitarian efforts.
In attendance were the Hon Tony Burke MP, Minister for Home Affairs, Minister for the Arts, Minister for Cyber Security, and Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, who also serves as the Federal Member for Watson; the Hon Jason Clare MP, Minister for Education and Federal Member for Blaxland; and the Hon Ash Ambihaipahar MP, the newly elected Federal Member for Barton.
Joining them from the local government was the Mayor of Canterbury Bankstown City Council, Clr Bilal El-Hayek, alongside Clr Rachelle Harika. The dignitaries were warmly welcomed by Human Appeal’s Chairman of the Board, Riyad Qasim and Director, Bashar Al-Jamal as well as the rest of the senior management team.
The gathering was held to congratulate the ministers on their recent election victory and to reaffirm Human Appeal’s commitment to constructive community dialogue and collaborative partnerships. Central to the discussion was the worsening humanitarian crises in several parts of the world, where Mr Al-Jamal shared the grave concerns of the Australian Muslim community. Drawing on real-time updates from Human Appeal’s team on the grounds particularly in the Gaza Strip, he highlighted the urgent need for increased humanitarian support and international advocacy.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to explore broader community priorities and the importance of continued engagement between government and local organisations like Human Appeal. Director Al-Jamal noted the significance of leaders such as Mayor Bilal El-Hayek and praised the role of local representatives in bridging community needs with national policy.
