On Sunday, 7 March 2021, Human Appeal Australia hosted its 14th Annual Year 12 Muslim Achievement Awards in Melbourne.
The awards were for Year 12 students who achieved ATARs of 90 or above in 2020.
The ceremony was held at Laila Reception in Brunswick and was attended by students, members of the community; politicians, school principals, businesses and family members. 81 Students were honoured for their hard work and awarded certificates of recognition and were gifted an iPad.
The ceremony was opened with the heart-warming recitation of the Quran by Sheikh Alaa Elzokm from Board of Imams of Victoria.
Human Appeal Australia’s Victorian Branch Manager Rabih Baytie welcomed guests then various speeches were given by Dr Samantha Ratnam: MLC for Northern Metropolitan and the Leader of the Victorian Greens, Islamic Council of Victoria’s President Adel Salman, Deputy Chair of Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) Bwe Thay, The Hon David Hodgett, the Shadow Minister for Education, Prof Akhtar Kalam, the chairman of MCCA, Dr Yasser Zaki, from Tender Loving Care Disability Services and our Keynote speaker Dr Ashraf Chehata who is an Orthopaedic Surgeon sub specialising in Shoulder, elbow, wrist and Upper limb trauma. Overall, the event was filled with a warm atmosphere of celebration and joy.
